About us
The story of how Tern Away was formed
The Beginning
Tern Away began with founding members Josiah Wood and Aiden Andrews. Josiah came up to Aiden at youth group and asked if he would play at a small open mic night with him, Aiden agreed. This is how the core of the band was formed. At the time called "The Sound", Josiah and Aiden kept playing a few more small gigs before deciding it was time to add a bass player.
"The Ternary"
Soon after, Josiah recruited one of his flag football teammates, Chris Whalen, to play bass, and they renamed themselves "The Ternary". This form of the band lasted from September to December of 2025. During this time, the band experimented with making a lot of original music, writing songs like "Made Life Better For Me".
Present-Day Tern Away
In very late 2025, the band renamed themselves once more to Tern Away, the name that stuck. Around that time, they made their way into the studio to record their first single, which released on March 6th, 2026. Now the band focuses a lot on playing gigs around Connecticut. The band is now also in the process of recording their first studio album!
Tern Away In The Future
Tern Away plans to continue writing songs and playing gigs throughout 2026, and plans are in place for their album to release over the summer. Multiple gigs are also lined up for the summer, including the Windsor Locks Town Green. Overall, Tern Away is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

The most exciting part about how Ternaway started is that it came together naturally through a shared love of music. What began as friends playing together, writing songs, and spending hours practicing quickly turned into something bigger once everyone realized how well their sound and energy worked together as a band.
What drives us to make music together is the passion we all share for creating something real. Writing songs, performing live, and seeing people connect with our music is an incredible feeling. We push each other to grow as musicians and keep getting better every time we play. Knowing that our music can mean something to someone else is what keeps us motivated and excited for what’s next. 🎸
Aiden Andrews
Percussion
Aiden has always loved playing drums. He has been playing with drum sticks since 2 years old, started actually playing at 9, and has been consistently playing since 12 years old.
Aiden also loves playing sports. In Baseball he bats second and plays 1st base. In Basketball he plays Forward.
Aiden Andrews is one the founding members of Tern Away, when, in summer of 2025, Josiah Wood asked Aiden to play a small open mic night. Since then, his out-of-pocket play style inspired by 90's grunge drives the sound of their original music.
Aiden is 15 years old.

Our goal is for people to get lost in the music for a little while and feel something real through the songs. Whether it’s excitement, inspiration, or simply having a great time, we want our music to create a moment that people remember.
